Retainer Wear and Care

After having your braces removed you will have a clear plastic retainer made.

For the first four months until your next visit with us you will be wearing the retainers all the time, except when eating or brushing your teeth. Remember to brush your teeth after eating before inserting the retainers. The retainers can be cleaned using cold water and soap along with a toothbrush. It is a good idea to clean the retainers regularly so they don’t pick up stains or odors. If you wish to freshen them up, you can rinse them in a whitening mouth wash, or purchase a retainer cleaner (similar to a denture cleaner).

Keep your retainers and case away from pets.

About four months after having your braces removed and retainers inserted we will see you again for a retainer check up. Bring your retainers and we will ensure they are still fitting properly and give you new information about wearing them.

If you loose or break your retainers, or they are just not fitting right please call our office.
